Welcome back everybody to the 2014-15 Season

18-praying-mantis-bike

We had a great roll up for the first race of the Twinnies season, with over 100 competitors going through the motions. Its amazing how much fitness you loose in the off season when you sleep in, party and don’t train, well that’s my excuse! Maany club members having just raced in the Gold Coast Challenge and then more were up at the Mooloolaba Half Iron Man over the week end we should see some stunning times  throughout the season.

We have our regular sponsors back again,  Palm Beach SupercyclesStorm Cycles,  Cannabil clothing, South Tweed Cycles, Kingscliff Cycle Centre which is now owned by Daren and Julie French ( with a daughter doing the intermediate races)and now Brendan and Doctor Bike Jnr Paul Woodger from Coastal Cyclery. These businesses support our club each week, so please when considering making your next triathlon related purchase you at least visit one of our sponsors and see if they can help you out.

Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to marshall, your duties when marshalling are 1. Not to direct/control traffic, 2. Wear the relective High Viz vest, 3. Be on your point until the last cyclist goes through- they will let you know.

As a marshall, up on Fraser/Amaroo you have the advantage of seeing and hearing cars racing up and down Fraser, its up to the cyclists to check the intersection, some may ask you if its clear, it is their responsibility. You are there as a requirement of our authority to hold our club meetings. For those at Woodlands Drive, again you are a visual warning to motorists that something is happening, in the past in the wet a few have come to grief on the slippery roundabout.  The vests are supplied at registration and have a mobile phone number clearly printed on the bottom. That number goes through to a mobile on the registration desk should you need to report anything.

I still need three volunteers to complete the marshalling roster one for 22 march and 2 for Club Championships of 28 March, if you can help out it would be great.

With daylight saving coming,  4 races away, those early starters MUST HAVE operational front and rear lights, and for those present on Saturday morning would have heard Dr bike Jnr Paul Woodger speak on the benefits of using your lights when ever your out on the bike, it makes you more visible to the other road users. He also spoke to the correct adjust of your helmet – you should be just able to slip two fingers between the chin strap and your chin.
