Hi Everyone
Thanks to everyone that registered on Saturday it was great to see so many athletes, we had 80 turning up to collect their personal timing chips and their start times.
I thought I’d give a quick info update on the new timing system. The system is based around Webscorer software used by sporting clubs all over the world, ankle chips and chip readers.
A race is based on a racer start list, basically everyone who is racing on the day. See online race registration below. The start list will be created from the previous week’s event and anyone else that turns up on Saturday. We can’t add racers to a start list after our race has started (6am). For this reason we ask that everyone either pre-register or be at registration desk prior to 5:50am. Giving us time to process everyone prior to race start.
Each racer will be handicapped to finish at 7:30, the handicaps are loaded into the software after each race. Checking the handicaps is still a manual process, so I’m not sure what time this will be finished. The website will be updated as soon as I’m finished with everyone’s start time, whether it has changed or not. You will be able to check your start time on the laptop(s) at registration.
Once the race has started, everyone’s race has started. Any chips that trigger the software, will automatically end your swim leg. So be very careful around the timing shute, we will have an exclusion zone and it will be large as the antenna has a range of over 5 metres. The gate where you exit to the bike and run will be closed until the first competitor exits the pool. If you enter the timing shute after race start, your chip will trigger and we are unable to re-set your start time.
After the last person has finished, the race will be stopped and the results posted to the website and you will be notified via email. The race file will then be loaded into the season series to get the weekly point score. This will be loaded to the website and Webscorer’s website.
ONLINE REGISTRATION
Each race will open for online pre-registration on Sunday and close 5pm Friday, a link to the registration page will be updated to our website each week. Pre-registration allows us to build a race start list to relieve some pressure with registrations on Saturday morning. If you have pre-registered you will only need to pay your entry fee and be numbered. If this is successful, we may trial allowing racers to arrive 15 minutes prior to their start time, rather than requiring you to arrive before 6am.
That’s all for now, please be patient whilst we get this new system working the way we want. If you have any questions, please see me after each race.
